-This scanner reads codes off 1996 and newer vehicles, including the vehicles using the new protocols. I haven't hooked this thing to a car it can't read yet, as of March 2014.

-It displays the trouble code, and a plain english description of the problem. That means you don't need to use your phone, or a book, or a computer to look up what the code means. Of course, you can always search the web for the code anyways if you want a little more understanding or direction in troubleshooting the issue.
